Advice I'd Give to a Younger Me

I'd like to share what I've learned with you. I would also like to have you share with me some of the things that make you happy.

I've finally learned to accept where I am and make the best of it. Take time to know where you want to be and how to get there. For now be in the moment. Don't wish for yesterday, but do dream about tomorrow. What steps can your take to be where you want to be? What actions do you need to take to get there but wait, be sure it's where you truly want to be. Right now, be happy where you are.

Be Willing to Learn. Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on anything else; read, listen to tapes, journal, have meaningful conversations, never stop learning. There is no truth to the axiom 'you can't teach and old dog new tricks'. No matter where you are in life, you are capable of learning something new. Never stop learning, it can bring so much joy.

Simplify Your Life. What is it that makes us think the more we do, the better we are? Why do we allow ourselves to become so over-burdened with 'have to do this and have to do that'? When do we take the time to just 'be'. Can you be happy running here, dashing there, getting this, getting that? We need to choose what we are going to do carefully. If it isn't vital to your life, you can turn it down. Omit one unnecessary thing from your life right now and make time to just be.

Anticipate. Look forward to things coming into your life. Visualize them. Feel them as if they are already here. A warmth will embrace you, a smile will sneak onto your face and your eyes will light up. This is how happiness feels. This is what you can make happen.

Spread Happiness. Wherever you go, take a moment to do something that will make another person feel good. See if you can make someone smile. The more people you can give a feeling of happiness to, the more happiness you will feel. Throw off thoughts that are negative, they don't belong in your life. Wrap yourself in those things that bring you joy, and keep them always within reach.

Be Thankful. No matter what you have in your life, be thankful. Start a gratitude journal. Every day take a moment to be thankful for something, even if it is just that you got up in the morning and had a new day to embrace happiness in your life. Be thankful for the little things, then watch as the bigger things come into your life. It happens. You can start it happening right now by being thankful for this moment.

If you go into your past, go to the good parts, the memories that make you smile.

Curry Healing and Recipes

Recent scientific research has found amazing healing abilities of Curry and it's sister ingredients, Turmeric and Curcumin.  A little bit of history, a little bit of folklore and a lot of recent studies, plus a few recipes thrown for the health of it. The actual main ingredient in Curry/Turmeric is Curcumin, a strong antioxidant

Believe it or not, Curry has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments from stomach cramps to throat infections and is being revived as a healing agent by recent research. It's been found that curry's main substance, turmeric, works similarly to non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Celebrex because it inhibits the effect of COX-2, a body chemical that causes pain. Recently I heard well known medical Dr. on TV say it has been found that eating curry twice a week can be a barrier against Alzheimer's disease. Many researchers believe India's low rate of Alzheimer's disease can be attributed to their large consumption of curry/turmeric.

There are numerous studies showing that Turmeric's active ingredient has an anti-tumor effect and may even stop the growth of existing cancer cells. There are cautions when using any spice as a medicine. Not always tested on humans, and some can be counteractive to medicine, it is always advised you check with your medical adviser before using any food as a curative.

Cardamom: As early as the 4th century BC Cardamom was used in India as a medicinal herb. Greeks and Romans imported it as a digestive aid. In Sweden it has become a more popular spice than cinnamon.

The spice is high in the photochemical cineole, which can positively affect several bodily complaints. Cardamom is considered to have many health benefits, many relating to the digestive system, like stimulating the digestive system, reducing gas, and counteracting stomach acidity.
The ancient Greeks and Roman appreciated this spice as well. They thought it was an aphrodisiac and put the spice in their "love" potions.

Use it in beef, lamb, chicken, shrimp . It can also be used in fruit compotes or added to chicken or shrimp salads and stuffed eggs. Use 1-3 teaspoons to 1 pound of meat. If you've never used curry powder, I suggest you sprinkle it on food like salt. Start with just a shake or two. After you become a fan of the fabulous flavor it adds, you can use it more generously in cooking some of your favorite recipes.

Chicken Curry
This recipe is filled with spices that have recently been considered to have healing properties.

1 to 2 lb. whole chicken (or 4 large boneless breasts, each cut in half)
1/4 c. vegetable oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
6 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
2 fresh green chilies, finely chopped
1 piece (1 inch) fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped 2 T. ground coriander 1/4 t. ground dried red chillies
2 t. ground turmeric
3 to 4 medium tomatoes, chopped
salt to taste
1/2 c. cilantro, chopped

Directions Remove the fat and skin from the chicken and cut into 8 serving pieces. Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onion, garlic, green chilies and ginger; cook until brown. Add the tomatoes, red chilies, turmeric, coriander and salt; cover and cook on medium to low heat for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, to prevent sticking to bottom. Add water, if necessary, and cook until chicken is done. Sprinkle cilantro over chicken and serve with steamed rice.

Additional caution:It has not been determined whether turmeric is safe for pregnant women and people with gallstones or bile duct obstructions should not use it.

There are some possible interactions between turmeric and certain medications, specifically, blood thinners and anti-inflammatory drugs. People taking either of these types of medications should therefore use turmeric with caution.

Inflammation and Heart Disease---

Inflammation and Diseases like Alzheimer's, Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Hypertension- May Have a Common Cause? Inflammation

I have had heart problems since 1985 when I had my first angioplasty at age 48. I've had numerous angioplasty, heart characterizations and have 6 stents in my heart. Until recently, I thought most of my problems were genetic and cholesterol related.

About a year ago, I found out about INFLAMMATION and 'C Reactive Protein', a test that shows the degree of inflammation in your body. I asked my cardiologist to do the test (a normal blood test) and found mine was exceptionally high. That's when I went on a quest to learn everything I could about Inflammation and prevalent diseases.

Alzheimer's, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, allergies and countless other medical problems may be related to 'Inflammation" in your body.

Inflammation is defined as 'a response of body tissues to injury or irritation; characterized by pain and swelling and redness and heat'. MIT scientists have confirmed that chronic inflammation of the intestine or stomach can damage DNA, increasing the risk of cancer and heart disease

If this post does no more than get one person to have the 'C Reactive Protein' test done, (you don't even have to fast for it) and prevent one heart attack or stroke I will be more than happy I posted it.

A new study shows that daily supplementation with 1000mg of vitamin C reduces C-reactive protein in those with elevated levels. The effect was comparable to the anti-inflammatory effect observed with statin drugs. Because vitamin C is water-soluble the body is unable to store it, so the supply must be replenished daily either from high vitamin C foods or from supplements.

The Inflammation-Free Diet Plan will help you achieve your ideal weight--without fad dieting--while also reducing pain and allergies, slowing the aging process, and dramatically reducing your risk for dozens of medical problems. This flexible, easy-to-follow program is the ideal for every member of the family. Share it with those you love.

High CRP levels, indicating systemic inflammation, increases the risk of eventually having to have a joint replacement. Even more importantly, taking steps to reduce CRP (such as following an anti-inflammatory diet) cuts your risk in half!

Healing With Turmeric

Scientific studies are being made to qualify Turmeric as a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts and burns.

When combined with cauliflower, it has been considered to prevent prostate cancer and stop
the growth of existing prostate cancer.

Is a natural liver detoxifier. A natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.

Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules.

Contraindications:
Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant.
The information contained on this lens is not intended to be prescriptive. Any attempt to diagnose or treat an illness should come under the direction of a physician who is familiar with nutritional therapy.

Turmeric - A Diet Supplement?

Metabolism gets rev'ed up.

New research claims Turmeric not only reduces inflammation in fat cells, it can help us slim down.
Research has indicated it also lowers blood sugar and can help prevent diabetes.
There are reports that it can lower your risk of heart disease by 78% and is currently being considered an anti cancer treatment!
Shane Ellison, who wrote Over-the-Counter Natural Cures writes about how it can rev up your metabolism and flush out toxins from your liver.*
RENEMBER: always check with your medical adviser before changing your nutritional program.

Turmeric, Onions and Colon Cancer

Curcumin, a phytonutrient found in the curry spice turmeric, and quercitin, an antioxidant in onions, reduce both the size and number of precancerous lesions in the human intestinal tract, shows research published in the August 2006 issue of Clinical Gasteroenterology and Hepatology.

A Little Ancient History!

Turmeric in Chinese and Indian cultures for medicine..wow

Turmeric has long been used by the Chinese and Indian cultures for medicine. Traditionally called "Indian saffron" because of its deep yellow-orange color and has been used throughout history as a condiment, and as a textile dye.
In Mesopotamia, clay tablets inscribed around 650 B.C. describe turmeric as a brewing spice, stomach tonic and dye plant.
In 1280, Marco Polo encountered a widely used, saffron-colored food seasoning that was most likely turmeric and brought it back to Europe.

Use in Cooking!

Turmeric's strong flavor, advise using sparingly to start.

Turmeric is an important ingredient in curry mixes, chutney, and mustard pickles. It also goes well with chicken, duck, turkey, vegetables, rice, and salad dressing. It is extremely pungent, and actually gets stronger when cooked. A little goes a long way, so use it sparingly when experimenting.

Thoughts About Consciousness, God/Allah and Energy!

What is all this talk about our thoughts becoming our reality?

What is meant by our consciousness?

Actually, what it is all about is vibrating energy.  Our Universe is a sea of vibration.  From the tiniest atom pulsating in an energy field of its own, to the brainpower of an Einstein, life is vibrating energy continually unleashing itself to be what it is destined to be.

One of the most exciting discoveries of quantum physics is the realization that our thoughts affect the world around us. In the quantum realm--far smaller than protons and neutrons--quantum scientists have conducted numerous experiments with the smallest particles known.

We know that all life vibrates, but humankind has the distinctive ability to direct its current  vibration.  The human brain consists of neurons that compose thought patterns that direct conscious awareness of its own existence.

Kierkegaard says: "The supreme paradox of all thought is the attempt to discover something that thought cannot think."

One definition of consciousness refers to our individual awareness of our unique thoughts, memories, feelings, sensations and environment. Another is variously defined as subjective experience, awareness, the ability to experience "feeling", wakefulness, the understanding of the concept "self".

Once we establish identification with 'consciousness', there is the next awareness, 'cosmic consciousness'.  Oh my,  what is that?

Wikipedia--defines cosmic consciousness as the concept that the universe exists as an interconnected network of consciousness, with each conscious being linked to every other. Sometimes this is conceived as forming a collective consciousness which spans the cosmos, other times it is conceived of as an Absolute or Godhead from which all conscious beings emanate.

Now we get into an abstract idea that, that which we call God, is the original creative force of the energy vibration that makes up the Universe.  Which leads us to the concept that we are all a part of that God/Creator

In my novel, 'Annon's Secret Something Within', Annon tries to explain this to Tony, who has angrily asked what Annon meant about a power within, a secret something within.

Whatever name you want to use for the Power , Tony.  Some call it God, and some call it Creative Energy. It has been called by many names: Divine Intelligence; Spirit; Soul; Allah; Yahweh, and Jehovah. What you call it isn’t important.” Annon’s gaze penetrates the anger in Tony’s eyes. “It is a universal Power, and when you identify and accept it, you will use it to change your life.”*

Is that Universal Power, by whatever name we use, the Creator that we are connected to?  Is it the ultimate energy flow that is within all that is of this Universe?  Is it consciousness, and if so, is it higher consciousness?  Could it possibly be that the same Creative Power we call God, is the same Creative Power called Allah?  There is but one God/Allah, but many interpretations which is what has led to 'Holy Wars'.

I believe it would be a more perfect world if we could all reach our higher consciousness, realize we are all products of the one Creator, and we are all one?  If we could not demand that everyone follow just one set of man made rules as in the Bible and the Koran, but follow the one rule of treating others as we would want them to treat us?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if by connecting with our higher consciousness, by becoming one with our Creator, we could all live in a world of peace?

What You Need to Know About Heart Disease-Alzheimer-Diabetes

What is Inflammation?

I have had heart problems since 1985, when I had my first angioplasty at age 48. Now, at 77, I've had numerous angioplasty, heart characterizations, and have 6 stents in my heart. Until recently I thought most of my problems were genetic and cholesterol related.

Alzheimer's Disease and Inflammation

Professor Jeffrey Kelly of the Scripps Research Institute has recently proposed that inflammation could be start of a chain reaction that leads ultimately to Alzheimer's disease.
In an article in the February 2005 issue of "The International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology," researchers state that neuroinflammation plays a part in the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Our bodies were never designed for the sleep-deprived, poorly nourished, frenzied pace of twenty-first century life.CHECK PRICE

Vitamin C Foods!

One of the first things I learned was the power of food to combat inflammation.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is possibly the most well known vitamin of all. It performs a variety of vital functions for health. You should therefore ensure that you are getting adequate supplies each day.
It helps to maintain resistance to infections and lowers levels of blood cholesterol. Finally, it aids the absorption of iron from food so that it can be utilized by the body, thus preventing anemia.
Try to eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, with at least one serving per day being vitamin A-rich, vitamin C-rich and fiber-rich. In addition, eat several servings per week of cruciferous (cabbage-family) vegetables.
Are You Getting Enough Health Giving Vitamins?

Vitamin C Supplements Reduce CRP Levels

High CRP levels, indicating systemic inflammation, increase the risk of eventually having to have a joint replacement. Even more importantly, taking steps to reduce CRP (such as following an anti-inflammatory diet) cuts your risk in half!
